Phragmipedium besseae was discovered in Ecuador and Peru in the early 1980's. That a stunning bright red/orange flower could remain unknown for so long is one of the great stories in orchid history. Since then, Phrag besseae has been used extensively in hybridization, resulting in many of the most popular Phrags on the market today. Also, Phrag besseae comes in a range of colors, deep red, orange, salmon, peach, and pure yellow. With this palette, orchid breeders are working to create new and appealing hybrids that are easy to grow and bloom. Many of the hybrids listed below are original crosses produced by Woodstream Orchids. Our summer inventory revealed a good number of crosses with very limited availability that we may not have listed previously.
One of our good customers in New Zealand purchased a flask from us 5-6 years ago and bloomed this incredible Phrag Beaumont which received a Silver medal from CSA and was named Best Orchid Grown in New Zealand in 2007! Way to go Ross and Susan!

Acker's Charm (Rosey Charm [4N] 'Pink Flare' x Grande [4N] 'Vista') - Large pink flowers with long petals. Excellent show plants. Very Limited, 1 available.
WSO 1643 Appalachian Sunset [3N] (Eric Young 'Woodstream' [4N] HCC/AOS x caricinum 'Aileen' AM/AOS)
- An original Woodstream cross, the first grex released was uniformly excellent. Dr. Arthur Kaplan in Norfolk, VA recently reported that he bloomed a plant from this cross and it received an AM/AOS. These, much sought after, show plants have unique coloration (organge highlighted with yellow) and shape. This triploid cross features excellent parents. 2 available.
Audrey (4N) (Twilight [4N] 'Rising Rocket' AM/AOS x Grande 'Vista' [4N]) - Similar to Belle Hogue Point (see image) Twilight is Eric Young x Living Fire and is highly branched. Fabulous show plants with rich orange-red flowers with long wide vertically held petals. Often hold 2-3 flowers at a time. Very few left.
