Masdevallia is a large genus of miniature to small plants that ususally produce attractive single flowers on upright inflorescence. Masdevallias are in the Pleurothallid group and many of the species and hybrids are easy to grow and bloom. They enjoy moderately bright light, intermediate-cool (generally) temperatures, good humidity and air movement. They grow well in plastic pots with moss or a seedling bark (Paph) mix. According to Dr. Robert Dressler, there are 22 species of Masdevallia found in Panama.

Masdevallia Species and Hybrids are popular and charming Central
and South American highland residents. They grow quickly under cool-intermediate
conditions with even moisture, good humidity and air movement, and moderate
light. What they lack is size, they make up for in floriferousness and
color. With few exceptions, these are well-established mature divisions.
