Miniature Orchids are for those many growers that consider themselves growing-area limited. In other words, almost everyone. These plants will all growto maturity in a 2-3" diameter pot and will remain less than 6 inches in height, excluding inflorecsence.

Acostea costaricensis - (Panama) Neat micro-miniature produces red flowers larger than the plant itself. Grow intermediate, evenly moist, with good humidity, shady-moderate light.

Acrorchis roseola - (Panama, Costa Rica/MTF*). A monspecific genus closely related to Epidendrum. These are charming clump forming plants that reach 6 inches in height and continuously produce small white flowers blushed with pink. Very rare in cultivation. Moderately bright light, intermediate. Limited.

Brachionidium folsomii - (Panama) Delightful miniature with bright red flowers. Grow cool-intermediate, with good humidity, evenly moist, shady-moderate light.

Cischweinfia dasyandra - (Panama) Easy-growing compact species with 5-6 1" green flowers with a pink lip. Easy! Grow warm-intermediate, moderately bright.

Cischweinfia pusilla - (Panama) Easy-growing compact species with 5-6 1" brown-red flowers overlaid with yellow, white lip. Fragrant flowers. Grow warm-intermediate, moderately bright.

Encyclia campylostalix - (Panama/MTF*) Very compact plant produces 10-12" inflorescences with 6-10 brown flowers with white lips and unusual winged ovaries. Easy! Grow warm, moderately bright.

Epidendrum allenii - (Panama/MTF*) Beautiful compact plants have upright growth of red leaves. Single 1" waxy white flowers appear sequentially from the elongating flower spike. Very easy and rare! Grow intermediate, moderate-moderately bright light, moist.

Epidendrum lockhartioides - (Panama/MTF*) Beautiful compact plants have upright growths with sharply angular foliage that is nearly-identical to Lockhartias! Produce fragrant spikes of distinctive green flowers. Grow potted or mounted. Rare! Grow intermediate, moderately bright light.

Epidendrum longicaule - (Mexico) Terrific miniature-small species from western Mexico. Lithophytic in nature, these unusual plants grow well mounted. They lose their leaves in the fall and should be given a brief winter rest. The showy 1 cm long flowers are bright lavendar and are shape like those of Ionopsis! Rare! Grow intermediate, moderately bright light, water sparingly in winter.

Epidendrum longipetalum - (Mexico) Really one of our favorite Epis. Never out of flower for long. Compact 4-6" plant produces long arching inflorescences which bloom sequentially for months. Flowers are creamy green, overlaid with red, with long dangling petals, giving the appearence of dancing dolls. No other quite like it (except 2 close relatives). Producing interesting hybrids also. Moderately-bright, Intermediate. Limited. In spike or flower.

Epidendrum neoporpax 'Woodstream' CHM/AOS - (Cuba). Awarded in 2000. We are able to offer a very limited number of divisions of our stock plant, which has proven to be difficult to propagate from seed. Grows reach 4-5" in height with compact racemes of small star-shaped white flowers. Does not resemble Epi porpax. Moderate to bright light, intermediate.

Epidendrum Panama Ruby (medusae x porpax) - (Panama/MTF*). We finally began releasing a few of these lovely hybrids at the East Coast Orchid Fest, and folks went nuts! These are terrific, resembling giant Epi porpax with a fringed lip on compact multigrowth plants. Very limited.

Epidendrum porpax - (Panama/MTF*) Clambering miniature quickly grows into beautiful specimens. Flower is from Mars! Apopular and favorite species! Grow intermediate, moderately bright light. Very different, and the first time ever offered. Easy to grow and bloom. Limited.

Epidendrum rousseauae - (Panama/MTF*) Charming miniature Epi with pseudobulbs produces 6-8" arching inflorescences bearing 7-10 white or green 1-2 cm star-shaped blooms. Relatively rare, but easy to grow and bloom. Moderate light. Limited.

Epidendrum schlechterianum - (Panama/MTF*) Creepy, crawly miniature with strange green blooms that lay flat on top of the angular succulent growth. Grows well mounted. Moderately bright light, intermediate. Really cute!

Gongora armeniaca - (Panama) Very compact plant produces 10-12" inflorescences with 6-10 brown flowers with white lips and unusual winged ovaries. Easy! Grow warm, moderate-moderately bright.

Gongora horichiana - (Panama) Our favorite Gongora. Less than half the size of most species, these bloom in 3" pots with dangling spikes of tan wasp-like flowers with contrasting orange lip. Easy! Grow warm, moderate-moderately bright, evenly moist.

Homolopetalum pumilio - (Panama) Unusual pendent miniature with large 2" translucent brown flowers. Grow warm-intermediate, moderate light, good humidity.

Kefersteinia auriculata - (Panama) Small growing plants produce single 1+" blooms from the base of fan-like growths throughout the year. Orange. Grow warm, with moderate light, evenly moist. Easy.

Lycaste campbellii - (Panama, Costa Rica/MTF*) The darling of the Lycaste world! Very small plants produce numerous 1" yellow blooms 2-3 times a year. Masdevallia Species and Hybrids are popular and charming Central and South American highland residents. They grow quickly under cool-intermediate conditions with even moisture, good humidity and air movement, and moderate light. What they lack is size, they make up for in floriferousness and color. With few exceptions, these are well-established mature divisions.

Oncidium zelankoanum - (Panama) Just described by Dr. Dressler and named in honor of our favorite Oncidiophile, Harry Zelanko! A true miniature Oncidium with unique charm! Platystele stenostachya - (Panama) Charming miniature Pleurothallid. Dwarf clumping growth habit quickly forms delightful specimens. Sepals and petals are greenish yellow to orange. Densely papillose lip varies from orange to dark purple. Excellent. Grow intermediate, moderate light, with constant moisture.

Platystele umbellata - (Colombia) Terrific miniature with clustered blooms resembling a small red sphere on the end of a 1-2" stem. Dwarf clumping growth habit quickly forms delightful specimens. Grow intermediate, moderate light, with constant moisture. Always in bloom!

Pleurothallis Species Pleurothallids include several genera, prominent among them are Masdevallia, Restrepia and Pleurothallis. Panama is home to some wonderful examples of the latter genus. Pleurothallis produce flowers from the base of the leaf. Some flowers are held low among the leaves, others are held aloft on tall stems. They tend to rebloom frequently from the same leaf! Many of the species are compact growers, and give growers who fancy plant architecture, as well as flower potential to become fascinated with this exciting group. Unless otherwise stated, Pleurothallis enjoy intermediate temperature, moderate light and even moister. Many can tolerate periods of dryness.

Pleurothallis allenii - (Panama) Dwarf plants have interesting dark red flowers shaped like diamonds. Relatively rare in cultivation. These are lush bushy plants!

Pleurothallis caligularis - (Panama) One of our favorite Pleurothallis! Very small growth habit produces proportionally large half-inch deep red flowers offset by white lip. Beautiful!

Pleurothallis carpinterae - (Panama) Beautiful miniature with large orange and white flowers spotted with purple. These will be very popular!

Pleurothallis cobraeformis - (Panama) 3" glossy leaves with purple pink flowers. Very nice!

Pleurothallis conochila - (Panama) 2-3" tall club-shaped leaves give rise to wiry infloresence producing dark purple-red flowers.

Pleurothallis fastidiosa - (Panama) 5" plants with racemes of delicate and beautiful purple flowers. Recommended!

Pleurothallis geminicaulina - (Panama) Succulent 3-4" leaves with rows of pink flowers on the leaf blade.

Pleurothallis guttata - (Panama) 2-3 inch raceme holds translucent green yellow flowers marked with purple, purple lip. Plant height 3".

Pleurothallis luctuosa - (Colombia, Panama) Thin-leaved growth reach 6", produce short racemes of aatractive elongate red flowers open simaltaneously.

Pleurothallis mystax - (Panama) Delightful miniature with 0.75" leaves. Rare! Dark purple flowers with white stripe are shaped like a cross. Very limited.
